Surviving the Egyptian Heat

Stepping into the command center to escape the afternoon heat, Robert pulled out his handkerchief and tipped his brow.  Never could he remember a time at the estate in York when he had felt heat of this magnitude.  Growing up the second son of an Earl, he knew he would one day leave his childhood home to make a life of his own.  His older brother would stay on to learn the running of the estate he would inherit.  Robert had joined the King’s service and had already served two tours of duty.  His commanding officer had taken him under his wing, as he himself was a second as well, and understood the burdens of his lineage.  Finally, sufficiently cool, Robert adjusted his coat and inspected his buttons to make sure they would gleam in the sunlight.  He was finally to meet the General’s wife and daughter.  It was meeting the daughter that had him checking his reflection in the mirror one last time as he walked back into the suffocating heat. For there was a rumor of her resplendent beauty, and this was one rumor Robert hoped to prove true.
