       Royal Love and Duty

Blotting her eyes with her ornately embroidered handkerchief, Caroline Matilda sits back in her chair, still holding the coin.  She is overcome with fear as she sits in her stateroom aboard a ship bound for Denmark, surrounded by her ladies-in-waiting.  She has been given in marriage to King Christian VII of Denmark.  Being of noble birth, she knows this is her one true duty; but what of love?  As she once again glances down at the coin, cast to commemorate her soon-to-be husband, she sends a silent plea to God to place favor upon her marriage.
