Paloma's Birthday Gift
She throws her arms around her father’s neck in thanks as she takes in the stunning pendant that he just slipped around her neck. Today is Paloma’s quinceañera, and her father has just given her a treasure. He personally designed the pendant to celebrate her favorite little seaside village that they escape to in the summer, Zahara De Las Atunes. Then, without her knowing, he asked her silversmith friend from the village to cast it. He has been hiding it all summer long, until just this day, to give it to her as her birthday present. Looking at it, she feels loved and honored, knowing her father, Pablo Picasso, created this just for her. She knows she will treasure it always, and one day she will be able to pass it down to a child of her own.
Historical Fiction by Amanda Ashmore
This "ZH" monogram comes from Industrial Monograms (1881), a book by Martin Gerlach of Vienna, Austria. The border around the pendant matches the midsize attached bail, complementing the beautiful monogram and adding to the overall impact of the piece.
